| 'We came not to save Prabhakaran through a ceasefire but to provide facilities to civilians' -British Foreign Secretary Miliband |

 (Lanka-e-News, 29th.April.2009, 11.15 pm) British Foreign Secretary David Miliband said at a press conference held in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today (29) that the aim of his visit was not saving Prabhakaran or any other member of the LTTE but to look into providing facilities to the civilians.
The British Foreign Secretary thanked for inviting and facilitating for a visit to Sri Lanka at the press briefing held after the talks with the Minister of Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama.
He denied regarding LTTE’s forcible holding of the civilians. He said that he could understand the difficult situation the government is facing amidst the thirty year civil war. He pledged support to rescue the civilians and to provide facilities to the displaced people.
The British Foreign Secretary further said that he would compel the states to take legal action against the LTTE sympathizers that caused mayhem in European countries.
Sri Lanka Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama said that he explained the British and French Foreign Ministers about the facilities provided to the IDPs. According to the master plan prepared by the Ministry of Resettlement, many of the civilians would be resettled back in their villages before December 31, the Minister said. |

The Secretary of the Ministry of Justice explained the programme of rehabilitation to socialize the soldiers and the LTTE cadres that are in the custody, said the Minister.
The British Foreign Secretary and the French Foreign Minister inspected the refugee camp in Chettikulam and expressed satisfaction with the facilities provided by the government to the IDPs.
