(Lanka-e-News, 2008 March 14, 10.30 PM) All Lanka Trade Union Federation Secretary JVP MP Piyasiri Wijenayaka says that a decision will be taken on an island wide strike tomorrow (15) unless the government shows that it will act against the thugs who assaulted the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) staff and assure the safety of the workers.
The MP made these comments addressing media to clarify the actions of the JVP against the fatal thug attack on SLRC's JVP trade union leader Anurasiri Hettige.
MP Wijenayaka said that this attack proved that the government planned to assassinate the leaders of this struggle through identifying them at the discussion held yesterday (13) evening.
He said that he would point finger directly at the President himself since he or his government did not act against the Minister Mervin Silva's ruthless acts.
He said that his trade union boycotted the discussion with the President today at Temple Trees since they were not ready to talk with a cut throat President.
MP Wijenayaka said that the trade union federation was urging to take action against the savagery of the government and the working people would chase the rowdies out of the king’s court.
The MP further said that the decision for an island wide strike was postponed to tomorrow since the time was needed to organize it and to give the government time to solve the problem.
Kanchana Marasinghe, Chairman of the SLRC Producer's Union said that the thugs aimed to kill Mr. Hettige and he had a very close shave.
He said that the SLRC workers ended the strike temporarily and they would come to a decision on future action on Monday. |
