 (Lanka-e-News -01.Sep.2012, 4.30PM) Dr.Chamila Herath of the Anuradhapura Hospital had been ruthlessly assaulted 30th Aug night at Dahiyagama junction ( near D.S . Senanayake College) . Dr. Herath who had sustained serious injuries is now admitted to the lung intensive care unit of the Hospital .
A group of supporters of the UPFA candidate Berty Premalal had launched this attack on him.. This group by last morning (10.30 a. m. ) were engaged in removing the cutouts and decorations of that office.
The campaign office of the UPFA at the Dahiyagama junction is being run without due approval.
When Dr. Chamila Herath was traveling to the Hospital at about 12.00 midnight in his vehicle , he had been obstructed from proceeding ahead by a group that was near the UPFA unauthorized office .
He had told them that he has to go to perform his duties , when the group had tried to drag the Doctor out of the vehicle after opening its door. The Doctor had at that moment locked the door . The group had then punched the Doctor’s face through the open windscreen severely. Some others had even broken the windscreen with the rods that were in their hands. A mob of a bout 20 had then started attacking his vehicle after surrounding it.
The Doctor who was seriously injured in his face had sped to the Hospital in the vehicle . |

Following this incident the Doctors of the Anuradhapura Hospital had staged a strike against the attack launched on the Doctor. The CaFFE Organization which had made a complaint to the Elections Commissioner in this regard had stated that owing to the continuous and numerous incidents of violence in Anuradhapura district , it is impossible to hold a fair and free elections.
The CaFFE organization added that , from this unruly hooliganism attacking a harmless Doctor who was on his way to Hospital to perform his duties it is clear that this group is deliberately aiming at creating mayhem and breaking down the laws.
