Syrian conflict spreads to Lebanon: 85000 SL there in grave peril
(Lanka-e-News -31.Aug.2012, 5.30PM) Sri Lankans (SL) in Lebanon have informed that over 85 000 SL employed there are facing a perilous situation because of the civil unrest in Syria spreading to that country. Last week there had erupted fierce clashes in Tripoli ,the second capital city of Lebanon between the armed Sunni Muslims of Lebanon who are supporting Syrian rebels and the Shia Muslims who are supporting the ruling regime of Bashar Al Asad . By yesterday (29) , the death toll has risen to 12. The situation is aggravating , and the deaths are increasing while the number of injured had exceeded a hundred, according to reports from our correspondent in Lebanon. In Tripoli city alone there are over a ten thousand SL workers.
This conflict is spreading through the main city Beirut. Yesterday the route leading to Beirut was also closed.

In the circumstances , it is the consensus that the SL foreign Ministry officials shall focus their attention on this grave issue which has placed the 85000 Sri Lankans in grave jeopardy although they have not done that yet, because SL is still dispatching domestic employees to Lebanon.
