| Did Liyanage the cheat inveigle his way into or bamboozle President ? |

 (Lanka-e-News-08.Aug.2012, 11.30PM) It is being widely questioned how Chandrapala Liyanage the notorious turncoat was able to creep into the Govt. information dept. where all the vital information is stored and exchanged ? Has he inveigled himself into the favor of President Rajapakse or was the latter bamboozled wholesale by this clever trickster who has a putrid antecedence of treachery and treason .
Liyanage who has somehow managed to plant himself in the post of Additional director , Government information dept. currently was formerly the President’s media center coordinating Director. As he was found not competent enough in this post and tainted with alleged frauds and corruption , he had to leave the position as well as the country, and take up appointment in the SL High commission in Italy since the Govt. wanted to get rid of him from SL. This was an arrangement made in order to forestall a possible scandal revolving around him here. In the event this scandal erupted , it could have reflected poorly on the President too for appointing the wrong persons in high places.
After being there he returned to SL for the Presidential elections when Sarath Fonseka was contesting as a Presidential candidate. Liyanage who is a time server and an opportunist switched loyalty and supported Fonseka secretly and sincerely on the conviction that he would win the election , while at the same time he was ostensibly campaigning for the President. But to his dismay and disappointment , Fonseka lost elections.
When Fonseka lost the elections , he went back to Italy and worked in the Embassy. On this trip he took with him Colonel Jagath Perera a strong supporter and friend of Fonseka who was residing in Liyanage’s house . Meanwhile his corrupt and fraudulent propensities innate in him took the better of him. He collected funds from the Si Lankans abroad prostituting his official position in the Embassy citing the ground that those funds are to provide relief for the displaced persons in SL. Thereafter , he could not wait there any longer since he could not answer those who made disbursements towards the relief fund. So he terminated his four year contract and prematurely returned to SL.
Now , it is widely being questioned , what he did with the large sums of monies he collected ostensibly to help the displaced ? Of course he had built a four storied mansion after returning to SL. But what did he do otherwise than that for the poor displaced persons for whom he collected huge funds with zest ? |

Being a downright opportunist , he was able to use his evil talent and traits to ingratiate himself into the favor of President Rajapakse after his return. Now , the question asked by those colleagues in his place of work is , how trustworthy is he ? Going by his conduct in office he is most untrustworthy , and it is being wondered how this notorious renegade could fool the President who is supposedly not a fool.
Sources within are worried that in the event of Liaynage resorting to some subtle sabotage activity against the Govt . , all those working with him can get involved unnecessarily. Hence , they ask, should n’t the President eliminate this time bomb before it explodes.? |
