| A prisoner who was brutally assaulted in Vavuniya prison dies in Ragama Hospital |

(Lanka-e-News-04.July.2012, 11.45PM) One of the prisoners who was very critical following the attacks launched on them at the Vavuniya prison during the rebellious situation recently in that prison, died at the Ragama Hospital today (4).
Some of the political prisoners after the tense situation that prevailed in that prison were transferred to the Mahara prison.
These prisoners who were brought to the Mahara prison were all with bruises and injuries , and some even with their limbs broken. Their dresses with blood stains had also not been changed, according to reports.
Among these prisoners, three of them were in a most critical condition and they had to be admitted to the Ragama Hospital. Nimalaruben who was one of those so admitted died today. |

These are the prisoners who were responsible to stage a fast recently unto death recently demanding that the political prisoners be either released or be tried in a court of law.
Though the Govt. gave a promise that it would start court proceedings within a month , that was not fulfilled. Consequently, there arose restlessness and tension within the prison.
The prison officers alleged that the prisoners held three prison officers to ransom . Yet it was not revealed who were these officers who were held to ransom. In order to rescue the prison officers, the STF were summoned. During the STF operations a large number of prisoners were subjected to vicious assaults. |
