CID raids Media office: computers, equipments impounded, and seals office: 8 journalists taken to 4th floor: on the trail of Ferdinands
(Lanka-e-News-29.June.2012, 6.00PM) The CID had raided the Sri Lanka mirror website office and taken into its possession the 7 computers and equipments which were there . All the employees at that office have also been taken into custody , and were taken to the 4th floor. 9 employees including a lady tea maker who were arrested had been taken to the 4th floor of the CID. 8 journalists now under CID custody

After showing a Warrant issued by the Colombo Magistrate court No. 3 , about 25 CID officers have swooped on the website office and searched everything that were there. Thereafter all the computers , hard discs etc. which were there had been impounded by the CID. Later the office was sealed.

In November last year , when 5 websites were banned , the Sri Lanka mirror too was banned. But after registering with the Govt. they obtained a court order and got the ban lifted.

This was a website which had a brilliant record and reputation as a website that kowtowed to no political power or unilateral opinions.

Meanwhile, Ruwan Ferdinands , the media advisor of Sri Lanka x news that is affiliated to the UNP , which rendered support to launch the Sri Lanka mirror is being trailed behind by the CID. Six CID officers had gone to Ruwan’s house . But only Ruwan’s wife had been in the house. It is learnt that the CID are at the moment searching the house.

Since of late , the newspapers of MP Tiran Alles who is a puppet of Rajapakse regime carried on a vicious mudslinging campaign against Ruwan Ferdinands maligning him as a godfather of the website .

Ruwan Ferdinands is member of the UNP media unit , and a Secretary to the former Minister Mangala Samaraweera. He was to take over the Irurasa weekend newspaper that is on the verge of collapse .

It is noteworthy that two days ago , the Govt. banned over ten Tamil websites within SL.
