Fonseka's maiden media discussion after his release : thanks only four who came to see him in prison!
(Lanka-e-News-17.June.2012, 9.30PM) Following the media revelations of secret discussions for over last 6 months and also subsequent open discussions, Sarath Fonseka who was released on a Presidential pardon convened a media discussion on the 14th. It was however most noteworthy that only just one member of his own political party attended it , and that was Jayantha Ketegoda.

Sarath Fonseka repeated his earlier stance on this occasion too , and said , he has no idea at all to join with the Govt. Besides, he does not wish to impair or impede his political journey , and he will be charting a new course. More than ever before and even more strongly than when he started his political journey , he shall be pursuing his political goals with determination and dedication , he emphasized. In the future even if he is to go to jail or wear the ‘jumper’ suit he will not abandon the cause he is championing. He will even sacrifice his life for the country in order to rescue it from the monumental mess and disgraceful political culture this country is plunged into , he stressed.

He said , during the period when he was in jail , he was traumatized and tormented. What vitamins he could not get from the foods he ate when he was in the army he received when he was in jail , by eating pol sambol and rice in the morning , and meals with dried fish , brinjals and beans for lunch , he added.

The rumors that he is going to pursue his political journey with the Govt. are aimed at soiling his reputation ,and befouling his cherished political ambitions and integrity , he further noted. He will wage a war against the corruption , malpractices and evils of the rulers , and oust them. He shall be doing this from the side of a strong opposition and create a clean and strong political culture in the country , he observed.

With this in view , today , UNP Palitha Thevaraperuma has come to participate in this media discussion symbolizing the need of a strong opposition, he said. In this program , who is the leader in the common opposition ? who is carrying on the tasks are immaterial , he stated. If the people think there must be a leader for the common opposition , the people shall elect a leader.

He urged those in the strong opposition parties , and the people who think of the country but voted for the Govt. to unite with him in his political journey.
He outlined in detail his policies and said they are nothing new. When replying to queries posed by the media , he gave answers which were diametrically opposed to his statements made to the BBC media earlier.

Earlier on , he said the army camps in the north shall be evacuated and civil administration shall be strengthened , but at this media discussion , he said, by the evacuation of army camps , those who are committing wrongs will be encouraged. There are 12000 terrorists who are in rehabilitation camps in those areas , and about 100 terrorists may not be in the camps, and therefore withdrawal of the army camps is not appropriate, Fonseka observed.
Fonseka in the end expressed his gratitude .. But he thanked most the Tiran Alles clan who held discussions with the President , secretly and openly. While thanking those who came to see him in prison, he mentioned only some of the names; the four of them were , Jayasooriya, Jayantha Ketegoda, Range Bandara and Palitha Thevaraperuma .

Following the Telecast of this media discussion via the TV channels, a Brigadier ( now out of the country)who was detained by the TID for a month on account of Fonseka told Lanka e news that , major generals and over 50 army officers were also detained along with him by the TID from one week to three months. In addition all those who were engaged in coordinating duties for Fonseka were also detained.

The brigadier pointed out , that it is most regrettable that Fonseka thought only of those who came to see him in prison and thanked them , while forgetting all those who acutely suffered and were in custody for and on behalf of him . He also added that all Fonseka’s coordinators are among those who suffered .

The Brigadier also asked , your Prageeth Ekneliyagoda also went missing and is still not known whether he is living or dead because he worked for Fonseka , wasn’t he ? Shouldn’t Fonseka at least remember him?.
